How We Treat Breathing Emergencies
We get oxygen flowing first — that's priority one. Nasal cannula, oxygen cage, or intubation depending on severity. Then we figure out why. X-rays show us fluid in the lungs, a collapsed lung, or heart enlargement. Blood work and blood gas analysis tell us how well the organs are getting oxygen. Treatment depends on the cause: bronchodilators for asthma, epinephrine for allergic reactions, chest tubes for pneumothorax, diuretics for fluid buildup.
